Dieser Aufsatz behandelt mittelkymrisch y(d) und yt und seine Verwandten in den anderen britannischen Sprachen. Traditionell werden sowohl y(d) als auch yt als ‘Partikeln’ bezeichnet, und ihre Funktion ist nie näher untersucht worden. Es wird gezeigt, dass beide ursprünglich als subordinierende Konjunktionen gedient haben und dass sie nur in bestimmten Kontexten synchron funktionslos geworden sind. Daher sollte man sie besser als Konjunktionen einordnen.

This paper deals with Middle Welsh y(d) and yt and its cognates in the other British Celtic languages. Traditionally both y(d) and yt are called ‘particles’, and their function has never been investigated closely. It can be shown that both originally served as subordinating conjunctions and it is only in certain contexts where they no longer have any synchronic function. Therefore they are best classified as conjunctions.
